FAQ: How to Choose Drone Protection Net for Oilfield and Gas Storage?

Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are a growing threat to oilfields, gas storage facilities and grain silos. To help you make the right purchase decision, Dutai Wire Mesh answers the most common questions about drone protection net, anti-drone net and drone barrier net selection, installation and export.

Q1: What mesh opening should I choose for a drone protection net?

We recommend a mesh opening of 50 mm to 200 mm (5–20 cm). A smaller opening like 50 mm stops even mini drones and camera quadcopters, while a larger opening such as 150–200 mm reduces wind load and cost for protecting wide areas. Tell us the drone types you are guarding against and we will calculate the right mesh size.

Q2: Which wire material is best for an anti-drone barrier net?

For permanent installations in oilfields and gas storage sites, 304 stainless steel wire is the best choice — it resists corrosion, sand abrasion and UV damage, with a service life of 15 years or more. For a more economical option, hot-dip galvanized steel wire offers 8–12 years of protection. Wire diameter is usually 2.0–4.0 mm depending on mesh size and required strength.

Q3: How high should the drone net be installed?

Standard installations use 4–6 metre high nets on support poles. If the site guards against high-altitude drone operations, we suggest combining a perimeter barrier net with overhead netting. Our engineers provide free layout advice based on your protected area and drone threat level.

Q4: Will the net block drone signals or just physically stop them?

A drone barrier net physically intercepts drones — it entangles the rotors and drops the aircraft safely outside the protected zone, without interfering with radio signals or other equipment. For signal-based defense, we can recommend compatible drone detection and counter-UAV systems.

Q5: What is the MOQ and how do you package the nets?

Our usual MOQ is 500 square metres or one pallet for export orders. Nets are supplied in rolls or folded panels, wrapped in woven bags or cartons and packed into 20ft or 40ft containers. We also arrange sea freight from Qingdao or Tianjin ports and provide all export documents.

Q6: Can I get a sample before placing an order?

Yes. We can supply a small sample of the drone protection net for your evaluation. Freight for sample orders is usually paid by the buyer, and the sample cost is deducted from your first bulk order.

Q7: How long does production and delivery take?

For standard specifications, production takes 10–15 days after deposit. Transit time by sea to the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa is typically 20–35 days. For urgent projects we can arrange air freight on request.

Q8: How do I get a quote for my oilfield or grain silo project?

Send us the protected area size, required net height, mesh opening, wire material and quantity. Our sales team replies within 24 hours with a factory-direct quotation, technical drawing and installation proposal.
