FAQ: How to Choose Stainless Steel Wire Mesh for Your Project?
Stainless steel wire mesh is one of the most widely ordered products in the wire mesh industry, and overseas buyers usually ask the same questions before placing an order. Below are the most common questions we receive, with practical answers on grades, specifications, MOQ, packing and shipping.
Q1: What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel wire mesh?
304 stainless steel wire mesh is the standard grade for most industrial and architectural applications. It resists rust and corrosion well in normal environments. 316 stainless steel mesh adds molybdenum, which gives much better resistance to chlorides, salt water and chemicals, so it is recommended for marine, coastal, chemical and food processing environments. If your project is near the sea or exposes the mesh to chemicals, choose 316 even though it costs more.
Q2: What wire diameter and mesh size should I choose?
The choice depends on what the mesh must do. For filtering and sieving, select the mesh size (openings per inch or mm opening) that matches your particle size, and use a wire diameter strong enough to keep the aperture stable. For security screens and architectural panels, a mesh size of 10-20 mesh with 1.0-2.0 mm wire is common. For fine filtration, 40-100 mesh with 0.1-0.3 mm wire is typical. Tell us your application and required aperture, and we will confirm the correct wire diameter.
Q3: Is woven or welded stainless steel wire mesh better?
Woven stainless steel mesh is flexible, has precise apertures and suits filtration, sieving and decorative use. Welded stainless steel mesh has rigid square openings, holds its shape and is stronger for fencing, cages, partitions and machine guards. For strength and rigidity choose welded; for precision apertures and filtration choose woven.
Q4: What are the available sheet sizes and can you cut to size?
Standard woven rolls are usually 1.0 m or 1.2 m wide by 10-30 m long. Welded mesh sheets are commonly 1 m x 2 m, 1.2 m x 2.4 m or 1.5 m x 3 m. Yes, we can cut panels to your exact dimensions with clean, deburred edges, and we can also produce customized width and length for large orders.
Q5: What is the MOQ and how is the mesh packed and shipped?
For stock stainless steel wire mesh, the MOQ is normally 1 roll or a few sheets for trial orders. Rolls are packed in woven poly bags or cartons, panels are bundled and protected with edge guards. Sea freight in containers is the most economical for volume orders; air freight and express (DHL, FedEx, UPS) are available for urgent samples.
Q6: What payment terms do you accept?
We accept T/T, L/C at sight and PayPal for orders. For trial orders, 30% deposit and 70% balance before shipment is the usual term; for long-term cooperation, flexible terms can be discussed. All prices quoted are FOB Qingdao or Tianjin unless agreed otherwise.
Q7: How long is the production lead time?
Stock items are shipped within 3-7 days after payment. Custom specifications (special grades, wire diameters or mesh sizes) usually take 15-25 days depending on the quantity and weaving/rolling schedule.
Q8: Can you provide certificates for the stainless steel mesh?
Yes. We provide mill test certificates and can arrange inspection reports (SGS or similar) for large orders. Material grades, wire diameter and mesh size are confirmed against your order before production.
