Padel Court Fencing and Glass Wall System: A Complete Buying Guide
Why the Right Padel Court Fencing Matters
Padel is one of the fastest-growing racquet sports in the world, and the quality of the enclosure directly affects how the game feels. Padel court fencing and glass wall systems are not just safety barriers - they are part of the playing surface. Balls rebound off the mesh and the glass panels at high speed, so the materials and installation quality decide the consistency of the game, the safety of the players and the overall look of the court.
Standard Padel Court Dimensions
An official padel court measures 20m x 10m (66 ft x 33 ft), divided in the middle by a 3m-high central net. The entire court is enclosed by a perimeter structure that is typically 4m high. When you plan a padel court project, the enclosure is built around this fixed footprint, and the wall system combines solid panels, mesh sections and glass panels so that play can continue behind the baseline and along the sides.
Main Components of the Enclosure System
1. Steel Posts (Columns)
Posts are the backbone of the structure. For a 4m-high enclosure we recommend 114mm and 140mm galvanized steel columns with a wall thickness of 3mm or more. Hot-dip galvanized or zinc-aluminum coated posts resist corrosion and keep the court straight and rigid for years. Post spacing is usually 3m along the perimeter, with extra anchoring at corners and at the door positions.
2. Enclosure Mesh
Fence mesh around the back and sides is made of strong galvanized wire, normally 3.0mm wire with a mesh opening around 50-70mm. The mesh must be taut and free of sharp edges. Heavy-duty weld mesh or wire mesh panels fixed with galvanized clamps are the standard choice.
3. Tempered Glass Panels
Glass panels are fitted along the back walls and part of the side walls so spectators can watch and players can play along the walls. The glass is tempered (toughened) safety glass, normally 12mm, fixed in aluminum or steel frames. It must comply with local safety standards and be able to absorb hard ball impacts without shattering into dangerous shards.
4. Doors and Accessories
A padel court needs at least one access door that closes flush with the wall, plus covers, net posts, central net and drainage provisions. Stainless steel hardware and anti-corrosion fittings keep maintenance low.
Fencing and Glass: Which Combination to Choose?
There are two popular configurations:
- All-glass rear walls with mesh sides - the most common tournament configuration: tempered glass on the two back walls, weld mesh on the side walls.
- Mixed glass and mesh - glass on the lower section and mesh above, which reduces cost while keeping the playing rebound.
Both options are available from Dutai Wire Mesh as complete systems or as separate components, with OEM customization on dimensions, colors and fittings.
Installation and Maintenance Tips
Proper installation is as important as the materials. Anchor posts in concrete footings with a minimum depth of 400-500mm, level the base frame before fixing the mesh, and tension the mesh evenly to avoid dead zones where the ball bounces unpredictably. Check clamps and fittings every season, and keep the glass clean with non-abrasive cleaner. A well-installed system lasts 10-15 years with minimal upkeep.
